Killhope Lead Mine Museum
Opens 1st April 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. A great day out for you and the kids. The adventurous can go underground into a real lead mine and see the waterwheel spinning almost silently to power the mining machinery. Find out the difference between Lead Mining with its vertical seam and then plan to visit Beamish with its coal mine and horizontal seams, an education in different mining techniques. Dress up and have a great time breaking the lead ore Galina to extract the lead.
Set in spectacular scenery on the Durham Moors it is a fantastic place to have a picnic or something in the cafe and have an unusual history lesson at the same time.
